What This Website Does
This website displays 360-degree rail corridor imagery alongside a GPS trajectory map. The viewer lets users step through recorded frames, play them as a sequence, inspect the route on the map, view mile markers near the trajectory, and open current locations in Google Maps.
Best viewed on a laptop or desktop computer screen. It may be difficult to navigate on a mobile phone or smaller screen because the 360 viewer and map are designed for side-by-side review.
How To Start
- Use the dropdown menu in the top right to choose a recording. The dropdown label indicates the time when the recording started.
- After a recording is selected, the 360 images and GPS trajectory load automatically.
- Click Play to begin playback. After playback starts, click Pause or press Space or P to pause or resume.
- Adjust the playback speed using the Speed input.
- Use > and < to move one image at a time.
- Use >> and << to jump forward or backward by the selected step size.
Map notes: use Mile Markers to show or hide railway mile posts, and MM Labels to show or hide their names. If the map is zoomed out too far, mile markers and labels are hidden and their checkboxes are disabled until you zoom back in. Click Reset Map above the map to return to the original trajectory view.
360 Viewer
- Click and drag inside the 360 image to look around.
- Use the mouse wheel or trackpad gesture to zoom in and out.
- The image changes as playback advances through the recording.
Track Map
- The map on the right shows the trajectory for the selected recording.
- The red marker shows the current image location.
- The Mile Markers checkbox controls railway mile post points.
- The MM Labels checkbox controls mile marker names when mile markers are visible.
- The Show GPS checkbox controls the current GPS label.
- The current-location line below the controls includes a link to open the coordinate in Google Maps.
